Envision Virgin Racing's Sam Bird topped the second practice session of the day here in Diriyah following in his teammate's footsteps. Envision remain on top ahead of Qualifying.
Following an eventful first session in Diriyah this morning, it was Robin Frijns teammate Sam Bird who topped the timesheets for the second practice with a best lap time of 1:14.353s. Behind the Brit was Antonio Felix da Costa for his new team DS Techeetah, setting a best lap time of 1:15.147s. Pulling in third was Rokit Venturi Racing's Edoardo Mortara with a time of 1:15.302s.
Nissan e.dams' Sebastien Buemi and Oliver Rowland filled fourth and fifth place while reigning champion Jean-Eric Vergne failed to make it into the top ten. Far off the pace was NIO 333 Qinghua Ma who came into the session late after the damage he sustained in the first session was repaired. The Chinese driver finished ten seconds behind the front runner at the back of the grid.
Early in the session, Panasonic Jaguar Racing's rookie James Calado swerved to avoid Audi Sport Abt Schaeffler's Daniel Abt before clipping the wall and puncturing his rear tyre. Crawling back to the pits, the British driver's car was repaired before heading out again.
