Best known for its cult classics, Harley-Davidson released details of its first foray into electric bikes at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) earlier this year, before teaming up with Formula E as an official partner of the 2019 New York City E-Prix.

Making use of the 14-turn, 1.5mile (2.373 km) Brooklyn street circuit, the marque will run its first consumer drives ahead of the season-ending showdown.

"As an official partner of the 2019 New York City E-Prix, we have the opportunity to showcase the evocative energy of LiveWire, the apex in a new era of EV propulsion from Harley-Davidson, in an exhilarating environment, said Heather Malenshek, Chief Marketing Officer at Harley-Davidson.

"Formula E is where we can connect with a global audience who are just as passionate about electric-powered performance.”

Capable of reaching 60mph (100 km/h) in just three seconds, the LiveWire sits at the top of Harley's all-electric bike range. Boasting a range of 146 miles (235 km) from its lithium-ion battery. With Harley's all-electric H-D Revelation powertrain, there's no need for a clutch or gears, meaning riders will revel in the immediate torque.

“When fans come to our events in iconic city-centre locations around the world, we want them to experience first-hand the technologies of tomorrow and see what new developments are driving the future direction of the automotive industry," said Jerome Hiquet, Chief Marketing Officer at Formula E.

"The ABB FIA Formula E Championship is the perfect platform to showcase the advancements in the arena of electrification and that’s exactly what we’ll be doing together with Harley-Davidson and their first electric motorcycle in New York.

"With such a big brand choosing to roll out their new product to consumers, it goes to show that Formula E really is more than just a race to the finish line. It’s a never-ending journey in the pursuit to counteract climate change and air pollution.”
